Agents of MAGIC – Hogwarts Year 5: Endings and Beginnings 6.31

Hogwarts-CrestForster Barclay stood at a distance, wondering what he should say. It felt half the train ride had passed before he decided to move from his spot. He reached for the door to the car, opening it as he stuck his head through. “Hello, Ambrosia.”

Rose turned from the window with a gentle smile. She had been watching the countryside go by, waiting for the signs of slowing that meant they were nearing their destination. Bobby had stepped out to say some goodbyes to his housemates. She didn’t blame him; even if she’d been wonderful company there were still other people he wouldn’t see for a while. “Hi, Forster. Come on in.”

Forster gave a shy smile as he entered that cabin, closing the door behind him...

Hogwarts-CrestThe distinct sounds of merriment from nearly every corner of the Hogwarts Express. Everyone had a whole summer to look forward to. There were vacations, lazy days, and grand adventures just waiting to be had. Unaffected by the general mood of the train, Rose was perfectly content to stay hidden away in a private compartment near the front of the train. She’d patrolled up and down the hall, performing her last prefect duty of the year, now she just wanted some peace and quiet.

And some time with Bobby. Though she knew her boyfriend had his own exciting things to look forward to this summer, he seemed more than willing to hide away with her here. It wasn’t hard to guess why. He was serious when he said he wished he could have helped...

Tommy year 6 avie1“You really not gonna ride the train back, Ginger?” Tommy asked as he nudged his girlfriend gently with his shoulder.

“Ah dinnae see th’ point. Céilidh shrugged. “Ah ne’er did ken how come we hud tae gang a’ th’ wey tae London ilka year tae catch a train back tae Scootlund, ‘n’ dae it a’ in reverse at th’ end o’ th’ year.”

“Well I can think of a few reasons this year,” Tom’s eyebrows raised.

“Y’er impossible,” the redhead said, rolling her eyes and punching Tom in the arm.

“I would love to know why all the girls in my life love to do that?” Tom rubbed his shoulder. “I told Bobby I would spend a week with him in Wales, but other than that I’m all open for the rest of the summer.”

“Guid,” said Foozle as he stepped up beside the couple. “Acause Ah expect ye tae visit tae...

Céilidh year 6 avie1An early evening fog spread over the dells surrounding Hogwarts. The mist was cold and shielded the sun from view, leaving those below with little sense of time, light and, in Belinda’s case, hope.

She was as lost as the sky was to view. She had been in a state of shock, of perpetual confusion, for days. Her time was frittered away by merely trying to survive, to push on into the next moment. She found walking took her away, away from the castle, away from inquiring minds and loathsome questions. Quite literally she was coping by putting one foot in front of the other.

If nothing else her feet took her away from the platitudes that were being foisted on her. She couldn’t even register what was being said to her. “Everything’s going to be ok.”

Ok? What was that? What did that word mean?...

Hogwarts-Crest“And why didn’t anyone call me?!?” Bobby glared at his friend still trying to wrap his head around everything that happened. Rose in danger, Rose as bait, and even more trouble. There was something very wrong with Bobby not being there. Deep down it bothered him more than he let on, like one of the many people there for her should have been her boyfriend.

“That was my fault,” Tommy shrugged, still walking a little slow from the beating he had taken in the fight, “First Rose didn’t show up to the Arithmancy O.W.L., then I couldn’t find Céilidh, and I didn’t even think of it.”

Bobby sighed understanding the situation, he just wasn’t a big fan of the circumstances, “It’s alright… I… I just wish I was there to help.”

Her fingers wrapped around her boyfriend’s, Rose listened in silence as ...

Rose year 6 avie1Her room was supposed to be a safe retreat, a good place to hide away until the feast. As Rose crossed the threshold and made her way directly to the bed, a shaking sigh echoed through the stillness. It was as if all the things that made this place home vanished with Nicolette’s departure.

Wiping away tears that she just couldn’t seem to stop, the little blonde flopped down among her many pillows and stared up at the uncaring ceiling. Of course, to receive any comfort from Nic they would have had to be on speaking terms… and Nic would have to not despise Eric.

Rolling over on her side, she hugged the heart shaped pillow to her chest, fingers tracing the delicate embroidery on the smooth surface. It seemed impossible to find a line of thought that didn’t lead to further depression...

Nicolette year 6 avie1Orlando MacFoozle stared up at the ceiling. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this tired he hadn’t been able to shake free of it since that night. It clung to him like vivia slug, keeping him tired and beat. The fact that he hadn’t had a good night sleep didn’t help any. And he knew why. He looked down to the journal in his lap. Several words had been written across the page in his chickenscratch mangled print… hen? colette? hello? are you okay? i need to talk to you… All over and over again in various combinations, none with any response.

His quill scratched across the surface again, just as it had every night at least once. I miss you. He waited...

Danny year 6 avie1Tom’s eyes blinked open. He groaned slightly as he tried to recognize his surroundings. This was most definitely not the grounds of the castle where he had finally succumbed to the pain in his ribs losing consciousness right in front of the Groundskeeper’s hut. As his vision cleared, he noticed the cold stone of the walls of the castle, with the white linen beds of the hospital wing stretched out in front of him. He tried to sit up but the sharp, knife like pain in his side made it too difficult.

“Tommy?” Céilidh’s Scottish brogue lilted softly next to him. “He’s awake!”

Tom lifted his again and saw Céilidh sitting a chair right next to his bed, Rose standing right behind her. Orlando sat propped up in the bed beside him, Danny seated at its foot...

Rose year 6 avie1“Rose!” cried out Danny as Foozle’s head shot up, his body leaping to his knees. Across the grass Ambrosia Sheridan lay writhing in the aftershocks of unimaginable agony.

Fingers clawing at the earth, unable to relax and extend in the aftermath of the curse, Rose sobbed against the dark soil. Golden star-bursts exploded behind her tightly closed eyes. She didn’t want to open them. She didn’t want to see it.

Her breath came in ragged gasps, afraid to move and make things worse. Afraid to hear her friend, the one she’d defended, use another unforgivable. Knowing Eric had actually cast the spell hurt worse than the physical pain. Almost.

Danny and Foozle froze a moment, their eyes wide as shock seized their systems. Eric didn’t pause...

Orlando year 6 avie1The trees were thinning out and the castle loomed large in the horizon. The twigs and rocks and dirt crunched underfoot as he raced for the forest’s edge. His heart thundered in his chest, not just from the physical exertion. His skin was hot. He could taste the bile in the back of his throat. Orlando could hear Danny behind him, his robes catching the wind as his broom whizzed through the trees, keeping pace and gaining ground.

With his wand gripped tight, he rolled to the side, bursting through a set of black switch-like branches that raked across his clothes to make it out to the open. He had barely set foot on the green grass when his chest caved in, every nerve exploded with a fiery pain...
