Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.20

fovatarSince she had nothing else pressing to do that night, Vivian went to sleep after Kardiac left. Not since university had she felt quite like this. Soon she’d likely be dotting her i’s with hearts and doodling her name with… So much for that plan, since she didn’t even know his first name, let alone his last.

There wasn’t anything special planned for the next day. Since she hadn’t spent the night before dashing around on rooftops, she was up rather early the next morning. After two cups of coffee, a long shower and breakfast, she donned some workout wear and went down to the gym in her building. After a while there she hit the streets, jogging to one of the nearby parks. That was one of the things about Garrison City that was growing on her, the parks...

kavatar“So, how was the rest of your date?”

“It wasn’t a date,” Kardiac said, perhaps a bit too defensively.

Bluewolf smiled internally. Kardiac had proven to be something of a sarcastic wise guy; maybe this was the way to successfully open a real dialogue. “That’s a shame. She was a real looker.”

Kardiac crossed his arms and leaned against the old, defunct air-conditioning unit. “It was purely business.”

“Well, if that’s the case maybe I’ll give her a ca….” Bluewolf cut himself off suddenly as the air-conditioner sprung to life. The power in the warehouse had been shut off from the outside, so there was no telling where it was getting the juice… or maybe there was. Maybe that taser wasn’t just a piece of equipment. This guy was full of surprises.

“Vi… Miss Green is still under investigation,” he...

bwvatarKardiac turned to leave. He had gone about two steps when he stopped and looked back over his shoulder. Bluewolf had disappeared from view, but his heartbeat was still nearby. “One more thing. If you’re here to ‘help,’ the Warehouse District is mine.” He then headed off into the night.

From the shadows, Bluewolf shook his head slowly. This guy had some serious issues. He gave Kardiac a good head start, then began following him again at what he felt was a safe distance. Despite the territorial feel he picked up, Aaron had already made up his mind that under normal circumstances he would probably like this guy. Still, it was his job to observe, so that’s what he did.

Settling in atop a high rise, he watched Kardiac carefully scale the side of one of the more upscale condos in the Eastland ar...

fovatarVivian had managed to get all her criminal gear tucked away safely and dress, trying to look like she had been here all night. She waited a few minutes and when no one busted down her door she allowed herself to relax slightly. After another few minutes she poured herself a glass of wine, hoping it would help her to calm down. She knew she was being paranoid. There was no way the vigilante could be headed here.

She picked up her glass of wine and headed into the living room, casting a silhouette against the sheer curtains that covered the balcony. It was then set back down on the coffee table without so much as a sip taken. She laughed softly to herself as she brushed a lock of blonde hair out of her eyes. “Get a hold of yourself girl” She said softly to herself and then sighed You need to...

kavatar“You might as well come out,” Kardiac said without turning around. “We could play chase around the city all night, but I get the feeling that I’d wear out before you…”

Bluewolf was surprised the vigilante had spotted him, but even more surprised that his surprise. He had heightened sensory abilities himself. Obviously, this vigilante was a lot more than he appeared.”I’m impressed. Even I would have had trouble hearing me approach.”

“There’s your problem then,” Kardiac answered, crossing his arms in front of him. “I didn’t hear you.

Extrasensory perception? This guy’s full of surprises.

Kardiac watched the costumed man consider him. He was in blue and gray, not exactly his favorite combination. “I really don’t have time for a fight right now… other business, so if you’ll excuse me.”

The blu...

capvatarHe tapped the clock face with his gloved fingertip out of habit, and then covered the watch back up. Any minute now, his boy should show up. Hopefully this would be just a game of follow the leader. Schultz’s man would take him to the girl. Capin would get said girl and take her home.

Another cloud dissipated from in front of him from a small yawn. Patience is a virtue Capin said to himself. He was hesitant to go into the casino, but time was of at least some essence. The tuxedo clad adventurer scratched at the back of his cowled head. No, Adriani didn’t care much for the costumed types running amok in his establishment. In the casino he’d be more than outnumbered. Of course he could hold his own, even in a crowd, but it wasn’t something he wanted to go out of his way to get into...

bwvatarThe call came in shortly after sunset, as was getting to be the norm for his operations in Garrison. The Organization brought him in to gather information and, at some point, make contact with the city’s resident vigilante. They hadn’t been clear on the type of contact, in fact the whole situation seemed a bit odd, but Aaron decided that he was going to play along for the time being. His operations contact only needed to pass on some information they had gathered, sketchy at best. He found it odd that the Organization’s intel on this guy was lacking, Must be one hell of an operator, he thought as he jotted down the info in his PDA, for upload to his suit. Maybe they want to recruit this guy, Aaron said to himself as he made his way upstairs to change into his ‘work’ clothes for the evening...

fovatarOh yes, this area just screams rich men needing to be robbed.

Fox didn’t bother responding, it was sort of pointless to argue with herself like that. This was, to a certain extent, a business outing. She was in costume; she was doing surveillance work, just of a different sort.

She told herself again if it wasn’t business, if her interest in this vigilante had been purely personal, she could have always done the DiD thing to catch his attention. But, here she was, in costume, arriving in area that she knew he had been seen in frequently. So it must be business, right?

Having incredible luck that night, Fox stumbled across Kardiac not long after sneaking onto his turf...

kavatarKardiac watched the four men from where he crouched atop the old Lexington Market Storehouse. The business had long ago moved their storage to a new location, but tonight business was once again booming in the shadow of the run-down warehouse. Two sellers… wholesale, two buyers… retail sellers picking up a supply.

It didn’t matter how much he burned or how many shipments he intercepted… somehow it always seemed to find its way in. He couldn’t be everywhere at once, and it made him even angrier. He’d stopped a robbery, two corner-deals, and an assault on his way to the Warehouse District, but he still felt like he should be doing more.

He always felt like he should be doing more. There were things going on, bad things, that he didn’t know about… couldn’t stop...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.11

Genesis smoothed the folds of her dress as she stepped out of the cab. She had just moved to Garrison a little over a month ago, taking a position with Lexington chemicals. The job paid good, and she was finally helping others. Unfortunately the job required her attending certain social events. So here she was outside the Metrogold casino for a going away dinner.

Genesis smiled at the taxi driver tipping him nicely, and turning to face the building. Genesis took a deep breath. “You can do this girl,” She thought to herself, “You’ve recovered, the doc thinks you’re alright, you can do this.”

Genesis walked forward towards the building, her nerves a little on edge. Large gatherings had always made her uneasy ever since that fateful graduation day...
