AGENTS OF MAGIC – HOGWARTS YEAR 5: FRIENDS AND OTHER STRANGERS 1.36

Rose year 6 avie1With that she firmly closed the door and grinned at Cass. “I love being a prefect.”

Cass smiled wanly at Rose. “Just don’t try to ‘prefect’ me into a room with the girl of your choice, and we’ll be fine.”

Ambrosia looked back at him with an expression of mock surprise. “Me? I’d never do such a thing.”

“Of course not,” he replied, smiling a bit brighter despite himself. That was one thing you could always count on from Ambrosia… she could turn rain into sunshine. It was one of the reasons Cassidy loved being around her. While she did little to assuage the feelings of impending doom, she definitely chased away the gloom. And that counted for something.

“So, about this dream…,” she said, looking around to make sure no one else was within earshot...

Hogwarts-CrestBelle made her way through the train, listening closely to the compartments for the tell-tale sign of a laugh she knew all too well.

After wandering the corridor for ten minutes the laugh came ringing in loud and clear. Sliding open a compartment door, she just Charlie Weasley and Terrence Zhang laughing themselves silly as Lou Lou Chesterhaven recounted a tale of the first time she tried to mend a bowtruckle.

“… next thing I knew, Kettleburn had a whole shaft of twigs stuffed up his..”

“Belle!” said Charlie Weasley, cutting across Lou’s tale. “What brings my…” Charlie pretended to count on his fingers, “Eleventh favourite quidditch player by?”

“Very funny Weasley...

Danny year 6 avie1Danny was trapped. Rose had done a masterful job of setting him up. He sat down on the empty bench, only to have Cecilia plant herself beside him.

Cissy smiled, a sweet little smirk that made Danny’s brain lock up. “So… I’m supposed to question you?”

“Er.. Yeah… er.. I um guess so…” ‘Bravo, Danny,’ he thought. ‘That sterling dialogue will surely win ‘er over.’

“Things only you’d know?”

Deciding that silence was golden, Dan only nodded.

“Okay, Danny.” Cissy was not going to be deterred. With a smile, she asked, “Where’d you have dinner last Tuesday?”

Danny’s eyes fell. As he made a detailed examination of the floorboards in the compartment, he replied,”Yuir house.” This prompted a chorus of giggling from the assembled third years lasses.

“And who else was there?” she asked, eyelashes...

Hogwarts-CrestBelinda and Eric reentered their compartment and flopped onto opposite benches, with Belle glaring at the smaller boy.

“I sometimes absolutely cannot believe your luck,” said Belle as she picked up Dief and set him on her shoulder.

“What?”

“It’s a 35 foot walk, you could do it inside of 4 seconds, but who do you meet on your way back? The scuzziest Slytherin in the school. What are the odds.”

“With me? Probably 1 to 1.”

Belle let out a low chuckle.

“Eric, it’s not all about luck. Bullies can sense victims like a grindylow senses blood in the water. If you could just have more

Confidence. I know Belle, I know.”

“If you know, than why don’t you do something about it? It’s not like this is the first time we’ve had this chat.”

Eric gave Belle a somewhat wounded, yet exasperated look...

Nicolette year 6 avie1Nicolette watched as the people who had invaded her train compartment left until she was gradually alone. It was a little sad to be alone again, but at the same time, she was relieved that she did not have to share breathing space with some of the people who had been invited into her compartment.

Aeryn stepped back in breezily, reclaiming Maisy who had begun eyeing Nicolette’s hamster in a very “I’m going to eat you” sort of way. She scooped up the kitten and sat opposite Nicolette, her hand stroking the kitten’s smooth fur.

“Sorry about that Nic. How have you been?”

The Ravenclaw girl shrugged noncommittally, “Fine, I suppose. I could definitely do without all the drama that seems to be circling this train.”

“Oh Nic,” Aeryn chuckled. “You so need to lighten up!”

Nicolette plastered a ...

Tommy year 6 avie1Tom waded through the throngs of younger Hogwarts students as he tried to catch up with Aeryn. Just as Tom passed the trolley, two almost exactly identical girls stepped in front of him and made him stop dead, “‘Lo there heart-beater,”

“We’ve missed you Tommy-Tom. How was your summer?”

“Oh, um good,” Tom said not really looking at the two girls, but instead was craning his neck and watched Aeryn’s blond hair disappear behind a group of third year Slytherins, Tom, slightly aggravated, turned his attention to the twins, “How was yours?”

“Oh it was wonderful!” The girls said in unison, looked at each other and giggled.

“Father took us on a trip to Australia, to meet with their Prime Minister. It was all very exciting.”

“Oh it was! It’s winter in Australia when we have summer! We got to ski, a...

Rose year 6 avie1Tapping her wand against her lips in an expression of artful innocence, Ambrosia tried—unsuccessfully—to hide her smile. “Now who can I trust to watch over the real you while we look for the fake you?”

Nearly bouncing as she began to cement the plan in her mind, she grinned as she turned to Cass. “Ohh… I know the perfect place. And no one will be able to accuse us of in-house favoritism. Keep an eye on him; I’ll be right back.”

Dan looked at Cassidy nervously. “She’s got some evil girly plan, doesn’t she?”

“They usually do,” replied Cass sagely.

Humming to herself she bounced off down the corridor, randomly checking in carriages until she found the one she was looking for. “Cissy!” Tom’s little sister was sitting with a group of friends.

“Hi Rose...

Danny year 6 avie1“Well, that’ over.” Danny sighed and pulled his wand out of his pocket. He began balancing it on his fingertip.

Foozle grinned. “Ye should try on yuir nose,” he suggested.

“I could do that,” Dan replied with mock confidence.

Foozle shook his head. “I dinnae think ye can.”

“Honestly,” Nicolette looked disgustedly at the duo. “Are you two that bored already?”

“Aye!” they replied in unison.

“Well, you could always look over your reading assignments again.”

Lando pretended not to hear Nicolette’s suggestion. “Lait’s gae find th’ tea barrae.”

“Thare’s a thocht,” replied the Ravenclaw. “Mebbes we’ll hae anither megrim yonderaboots.”

The duo stood and marched out of the car. Behind them they heard Nicolette seething, “Why. Can’t. They. Speak. ENGLISH!”

“Where is the trolley?” Danny wondered alou...

Tommy year 6 avie1“Michael Thomas Llewelyn.” Sam hissed coldly, closing the compartment door behind her.

‘So no one can hear me scream…’ Tom thought wildly, flinching at the use of his full name. He attempted to give a winning smile. “Er… yes, Sam?”

“Don’t “yes Sam” me,” she said poking her finger into his chest, “You go to the Falcons/Cannons game last night, see your brother make a fantastic maneuver, and tell Forster about it before me? Are you bloody barking?!”

Tom smiled sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head, “Heh… I was looking for you, but I got sorta sidetracked. It was awesome though.”

“‘Awesome?'” She repeated shrilly.

“AWESOME? I’m going to MURDER you, you daft git, don’t you understand that?”

“B-but I took pictures.”

Her hand twitched, hovering over her wand, which had been st...

Tommy year 6 avie1“I think I might have had a bit too much Pumpkin Juice,” Eric smiled to Belinda.

“Already?! You must have the smallest bladder in the world!” Belinda joked.

Eric smiled back weakly. “I’m just going to run off to the toilet,”

“Back-up?”

“I should be ok.. it’s only to the end of the carriage,” He replied.

“I’ll be keeping an ear out,” Belinda winked.

“Thanks Belle,” Eric smiled and started off down the corridor.

Tom looked at his watch as the Hogwarts Express rattled along the rails, wondering how much longer Rose, Sam and the other prefects would be busy with their briefing for the year ahead. Orlando and Dan were talking with each other about the previous summer while Aeryn and Tom engaged in avid discourse over the Quidditch game from the night before.

“I swear....
