Hard Boiled – Episode Three: The Long Road Home 1.3

It was early. It was not that Jotaro wasn’t an early riser. He typically conducted his exercise routine before dawn. He was, however, unaccustomed to conducting business at such an early hour. His gleaming black town car rolled to a smooth stop and after a moment, his driver opened the door to let him out. Jotaro stepped onto the curb, craning his neck up the many stories of the KenTech building he had been summoned to by his superior Keisuke Kanda. Kanda-san had been very abrupt on the phone, offering no details, only that he was to arrive as early as possible.

Jotaro found himself mildly impressed with the décor once inside the building. Modern lines and a mixture of steel, glass, and rich woods all complemented one another in a rather pleasing aesthetic style...

Capin looked over the throng that stood before him. He was tired. He was sore. He was just short of beaten. But then again just short is still anything but beaten. Kardiac’s appearance had given him enough of a breather to put himself back together for his next wind. And there was no way in hell he’d let any of them get inside for the big show.

“Oh come on!” He tossed back another of Ak-Fet Sur’s dogs, taking down two more in the tackle.”How many of you can there possibly be?” Capin had reeled Enry back inside, to conserve its energy, and started taking them on hand-to-hand and man to dog. He couldn’t remember a time he’d felt his partner so weak...

“…safe?”

“What the hell?! Jamie was right here what happened?”

“Jamie?” Kaye called out but didn’t get an answer, “We need to split up and see if we can…”

“Kaye, I think I found where she went,” Vixen said as she stood next to the staircase leading back up to the house, light was shining down from the doorway above.

“Damn,” the two raced back up the staircase.

“Looks like the boys had fun,” Vivian said as she lightly kicked one of the unconscious cultists.

“Yeah but none of them opened the door,” she said sniffing the air, “none of their scents came close to it, the only people I smell on it is Aaron, Ryu, and Jamie.”

“But she couldn’t have opened that on her own.”

Kaye switched on her comlink, “Capin you there, where are you guys?”

Little busy at the moment, Kaye could hear sounds of ...

Hard Boiled – Episode Two: The Roof is on Fire 1.84

Jenna pulled into the museum’s backlot, noting already the tons of people – meta and otherwise – already in play. This is going to be painful… Wryly, she thanked the powers above she at least kept up with her PT — because it had been a while since she had thrown a punch. At least I’ve got my guns…

She sent a loud thought out, trying to get Scott’s attention. It didn’t take long and the download less — including the fact that Eddy had shown up.

“About fracking time…” she muttered.

She snuck in through a basement window, sticking to the shadows. Hearing sounds of a battle above, she pulled out a small unit to track the best way to get to said battle. Jesus. Who knew a museum had so many back tunnels. This is ridiculous…thank god for global keys… There were times when working for a...

The museum stood tall in the darkness, a giant mausoleum holding all its dead history. No lights, just dead windows. Even the flags hung lifeless on the poles. Capin dropped to the ground and crept forward. It was still easier to keep to the shadows as the slivers of light from wherever cast barely touched the ground. Across the street he tucked himself beside a large SUV and surveyed the layout around the Museum. Large black dog heads paced the perimeter in packs. True to anyone with a god complex, Fet may not have been advertising his location, but he wasn’t afraid of company.

“We’ve never had to break into a museum before. You ready to do this?” When they weren’t moving Capin could feel Enry’s weight more and more and his spark less and less.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.”

Unaccustomed to b...

Jenna paused, pressing her fingers to her eyes. The strain of the past 72 hours threatened to overwhelm her. Worry – for Scott, for Midnite Man, for Bug, for Wolf…for Eddy.

“This is getting me nowhere.” Her fingers flew over the computer as she replied to Kardiac.

“I’ve routed your call for a pick-up through the police department.. Things are a little tight here at the moment, but you wouldn’t know anything about that.” Her voice held a deliberate bite as she glanced down at the incriminating disks.

Kardiac sighed, shaking his head. She was angry, and she had a right to be. Not only had he broken out of Strategoi, but he’d cut her completely out in the time he’d been gone. And now he called her when he needed something. It was a path he’d been walking far too often lately.

“Look, I’m s...

The third floor was unlit, with barely any light aiding from outdoors. Moving around the banister, Capin crept silently toward the open door of one of the guest rooms. He kept his eyes trained on the faint orange outline of a window. A figure moved in and out of the streetlight across the scene. He reached over and grabbed the chair by the bed, gripping its back with both hands. It was heavy and wood. He could feel the ornate carving along the posts that held up the soft worn leather tight between them. He carefully rested its legs back down and reached for the desk chair on wheels.

The figure outside the window moved back into position. The faint scratching sound implied he was attempting to jimmy the lock as quietly as possible, so as to keep their element of surprise...

Another wave of silence filled the connection as both of them avoided the other subject. Just as much as she was waiting for him to bring it up, he was avoiding it. Silhouette broke in first. “Did you find him?”

Capin looked at the glass in the light and then drained it. “Yeah we did,” he replied. That was all he had.

“We’ll let you know if we find anything.”

“Same here. Thanks, Jenna.”

“Always.” With that last word they closed the connection.

Scott arched his eyebrow as he listened to the conversation. “Interesting. You didn’t tell them what you discovered…”

“Get out of my head, Scott…you lost that right a while ago.”

A look of regret flashed over his face. “Sorry. Old habits die hard.” He leaned against the console. “What’s this situation?”

Jenna gave him a long look of annoya...

Capin removed himself from the center of the room as Jaime crouched beside Aaron. Collapsing into the chair he could feel the weariness catching up to him in the weight of his own body. He pinched the bridge of his nose. There was a dull ache stretching back through his skull. All the excitement up until now had managed to assuage the headache. Or at least keep it at bay. He reached into his coat and pulled out his communicator, thumbing it open.

“Jenna…” he answered the familiar beep. The com repeated the name, pausing another few moments as the signal went through its encryption. A few quick rings and her voice came through.

I’m here…

“Our first step in the right direction today.”

I’m sorry?

“Nothing. I’m sorry...

“Here drink this,” the Dapper Detective said as he handed Jamie a large cup of tea. He looked at Kaye, then to Bluewolf. Capin placed his hand on Jamie’s shoulder and squeezed it gently, “Okay tell us everything.”

Jamie took a deep breath and a sip from the mug. This time tears didn’t well up in Dr. Jamie Harris’s eyes, but a palpable feeling of anger washed over her, “I was in the ER at Garrison General, when these freaks wearing dog faced masks come busting through the wall. They said they were after me, and I tried to lead them away from the innocent folks. The next thing I remember is waking up at the Hammerstone estate and seeing Corin’s uncle. He was standing there with some weird expression on his face. When I asked him if he had been kidnapped to, he laughed...
