STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.39

bralor_avBralor pushed back from the controls, letting the unlocked chair swing out and around. Everything was set. He had made contact with the cruise ship and they had accepted their request for docking. It would be a few short moments before they would board and join the rest of their band of thieves who were already in place. Then the challenge would begin, and they would see just how reckless they were, taking a ragtag group of novices on such a large job. As he stood, he did his best to forget how short they were on luck of late, and how much they would no doubt require.

The Soul would take care of itself for a few. It was prepped just to reach orbit and hold position so Bralor could bring it in all the way by hand. But first there were things to be done. Important things.

He ducked through t...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.37

diva_avThe staccato thumps of meat against the padded leather of the training bag echoed through the empty cargo hold of the ship. Krynn stood clad only in glistening sweat from the waist up as he danced on the durasteel plate floor in his black boots. A wobbling drip of sweat hung on his nose tip as he slammed a fist wrapped in cloth against the bag again as the diva watched from across the room reclined luxuriously across the tops of some crates doubling as a lounge.

Krynn snarled at the bag as he lost himself in the rhythm of his blows and the dull ache burning his body. He was driven to be ready for the upcoming mission. He pushed himself focusing the pain back into the bag. He ground his teeth making the ache fuel his anger, and using that to drive the engine of his body faster and harder.

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.34

krynn_avThe metal floor was painfully cold beneath her feet but at least her footsteps didn’t echo through the halls like Bralor’s. Though she liked to think that she knew almost every inch of the Soul, Aidenne rarely ventured down onto the lower deck. She’d never had a reason before.

Dressed in a simple, almost utilitarian, black jumpsuit, a far cry from the dresses she’d soon wear as a Diva about to perform, she paused just outside the door to Krynn’s room. Her hand lifted, prepared to knock, then drifted back to her side. She could have told herself that such hesitation was natural. After all, people usually came to her. But she was seeking him out without even fully understanding why, only knowing that she was troubled and he was both a cause and a comfort.

A small smile tugged at the corner...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.33

bralor_av“I think we can meet somewhere in the middle, Rai.” Bralor crossed his arms over his chest, looking down at the holovid. “I’m good for it. 780.” The old man groaned and appeared to slump back in a chair. The clone leaned on the console. “You owe me.”

The image of the older man scowled, and flickered with static as he shook his head. “Taking advantage of an old man, Bralor?”

“You’re still making money on this deal.”

“This is how you want to call in your marker?”

A grin split Bralor’s face. “I knew you’d come around.” He stood upright, stretching to his full height.”I’ll radio when we’re there.”

“How long?”

“Not too long,” he replied. “One stop and we’re on our way.”

The man nodded and the feed was cut...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.32

arden_avArden stared at herself in the mirror of her quarters. Trey had told her to look her best, and she did her best to follow orders. One fresh shirt, pair of pants, and freshly polished pair of boots later, she was staring at herself in the mirror. She slid the new jacket Trey had gotten for her over her shoulders and fumbled with the clasp of the nova ruby necklace. Once she finally got it in place she gave herself one final look, smiled and walked out into the lounge area confident that she was completely ready.

Aidenne sat at the table absently staring into her mug of Kopi tea. The little Diva would have been highly embarrassed if she’d realized that she was humming to herself. But she remained blissfully lost in her own thoughts, until a new figure entered the room...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.31

diva_avKrynn knocked on the Diva’s door loudly holding the clear laminate print outs from the ship’s encyclopedic recorder. He had looked up the terms: Force, Sith, and Jedi. He needed to talk to her immediately.

She’d been sleeping, enjoying a dreamless sleep while stretching luxuriously on her silken sheets. But no one would sleep through that knocking. Since modesty was rarely an issue with her, she slipped out of bed and walked naked to the door, pausing only to check her reflection to make sure the mark was fading like Ures said it would. Sliding the door open, her expression settled into a peculiar mix of acceptance and annoyance at the sight of Krynn on the other side. “Have we given up on sleeping now?”

Krynn pushed past her into her room without asking and began pacing back and forth cl...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.27

diva_avBralor had collected Aidenne’s stained top. He wrung the excess drink from it into the sink in the head and draped it over his arm. Now he stood on the far side of the thick durasteel door that separated the Diva’s quarters from the lift. He knew she was irritated with him, and he didn’t blame her. He just hoped that she would understand. Eventually. He rapped on the door with a knuckle.

“Usenye.” Sitting on the soft seat in front of her vanity, Aidenne didn’t even glance at the door. She knew who it was. And if he ever regretted teaching her quite so much Mando’a, he’d never admitted it to her. Tilting her head to take a closer look at the new bruise that was forming on her reflection’s face, she paused to wonder if he might actually listen to her.

On the other side of the door a small s...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.26

arden_avThe door stared back at Tiila as she sat on her bed, chewing the inside of her lower lip. She didn’t know what was going on beyond that simple piece of steel and that bothered her. Being trapped in this room was no better than wearing that damned collar and she was not about to stand for it. Not out here. She unfolded her pink legs and walked over to that door, stopping just inside to firmly position her chin before jabbing the control panel with her fingertips. The door opened with a soft sound that almost made her jump. She walked quietly toward the lounge. Maybe she would get lucky and would find a friendly face at the end of the hall.

Maybe not.

As Tiila entered the common room she kept herself from frowning as the room’s sole occupant was that wretched orange Theelin...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.25

krynn_avHe stepped out and closed the door. The delicate glass bottle sparkled as it was lifted toward the light. Its contents, a purple liquid so dark it was almost black, shifted slightly as the tiny Diva examined it critically. The color was one of her favorites, sophisticated and mysterious… and laced with Malkite themfar. “These three are poisons.” She set the bottle down next to a somewhat smaller golden one and deep ruby red one. “Not that I expect to catch you using my nail polish anytime soon.” Glancing over her shoulder, she gave her companion a wicked smirk. “But I’d advise against giving me a reason to scratch you while I’m wearing any of this.”

She continued on, filling the silence in the room with her almost instructional tone...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.23

diva_avTrey walked into the lounge dressed in an outfit which made him look almost like nobility. The Soul had just set down in a docking bay in a better area of Nar Shaddaa and Trey had a plan in mind that, true to form, he hadn’t completely disclosed to his whole crew. “You guys know the deal. Hang out here ’til you hear from me, okay?”

Arden bit her lower lip for a second before she spoke, “Trey are you sure this is a good idea?”

“Sure I’m sure,” he said with a lopsided grin. “Diva and I can handle things. And we might pick up a little spare change along the way. Depends on who I bump into. There’s a few guys floating around this moon who still owe me.”

“And some that want your head up the business end of a bantha,” her eyebrow raised.

Trey leaned against the bulkhead and shook his head...
