STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.62

arden_av“We need to talk Trey.” Arden said hollowly as she entered the common room of the Soul. The Free Flying Soul. What a joke she thought to herself as she watched Trey turn to face her from his own conversation with Nik. Her own soul was a damn sight far from being free. She gave Nik a withering look that she knew her newest co-pilot would definitely understand as get lost and the little Jawa made himself exceedingly scarce.

Arden sat down in the chair. She could already feel her eyes burn as she looked at Trey trying to get the words to form. “Trey I…”

“This whole thing stinks of bantha poodoo.” Bralor strode in from the cargo hold, unlashing his helmet and pulling it off. “I’ve got a bad feeling-”

He stopped and looked at Trey and Arden. He read the expressions on their faces...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.59

kyra_avIn what was quickly becoming a common occurrence, the sound of a light foil cutting the air could be heard coming from the Soul’s secondary cargo hold. An area that had been more or less given over to the crew’s resident force-user in training. Kyra wove her way through the basic Shii-Cho movements to the more refined Makashi – a style that focused on blade to blade combat and was most suited to the smaller hilt of the light foil. Fluidity of form danced the young woman around the hold in what could be perceived as performance art as much as melee fighting.

Her repeated sessions, both with the blade and in meditation were paying off with a level of focus she’d not been able to reach in many, many months...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.58

arden_av“Just letting everyone know we are about to drop out of hyperspace near Nal Hutta.” Arden’s voice crackled over the Soul’s com system. “We should be…” she was cut off by nervous squeaks and chattering.

“No we are not going to come out of hyperspace in the middle of an asteroid!” the com clicked off.

There was the hard chunk of metal locks disengaging from behind her and the cabin door swung open. Arden looked back over her shoulder. Bralor stood in the threshold, the soft blue glow of hyperspace light falling over his face and dark cloak. His helmet hung at the end of his arm.

“You sure you wanna just stand there for this?”

“Kid, I’ve stood in the airlock of a YV-545 as it dropped from hyperspace right inside orbit of of Haariden to be thrown into a space drop as the transport maneuvered a...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.54

kyra_avThe Soul was streaking through hyperspace en route to Nar Shada and Durga the Hutt. Trey watched the streaking grey nothing of Hyperspace flow by. Turning to his pilot, a smile crossed his face. “How do you feel, this close to freedom?”

“Why do I get the feeling the that with that one sentence,” the pilot chuckled, “the rug is gonna get pulled right on out.”

“You know what?” the thief said, eyebrow raised. “You worry too much.”

“And you don’t worry enough.” the pilot shot back.

Trey patted her shoulder. “C’mon,” he said, jerking his head toward the ship’s aft. “I managed to snag a nice bottle of Coruscant blush wine, pre-Imperial vintage. Gonna crack it open back in the lounge.”

“Yeah sure,” Arden smiled up at the head of the rag tag group.

Trey returned the smile...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.53

bralor_av“I’m telling you, I get a bad feeling every time I’m around him, Trey.” Having made sure they weren’t being pursued, they locked in their course and jumped into lightspeed. Now, the thief, the pilot, and the newbie sat around the common room sorting the loot and discussing their separate encounters.”There’s no emotion about him. He put a blaster bolt in that Imperial’s chest without blinking those red eyes. It’s… unsettling.”

“He was right though,” Trey shrugged as he examined a peculiarly faceted bloodstone, “If the Imp saw your face, it could have brought a whole heap of trouble down on the operation.”

“And when they realize that these are missing?” The redhead slid a stack of datasticks and flimsiplast in front of Trey.

The rogue flipped through the flimsi...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.51

arden_avNik was crawling through the bowels of the Princess… again. Even he had to admit that this was getting old, but he hoped the deflector coil that he had sticking out of his haversack would at least settle things with Jenks and let him get on with finding a new rock to hide under.

He wouldn’t be falling through the ceiling this time, at least… not by choice, of course. He preferred the ceiling for the most part… people tend to ignore thumps and scratching in the ventilation ducts as poor maintenance. Unfortunately, the sudden arrival of a maintenance crew in the space bay he’d been “shopping” in had forced him to take the first available escape route.

So, Nik was under the floor panels this time, which meant things were a lot trickier...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.50

kyra_av“I have been instructed that we are to start in the Executive Suite wing of Station 3.” The Chiss said, falling into step beside Kyra. His head turned, examining her from behind his helmet. Again that slightly unsettled feeling twisted in his stomach, almost as if continued close exposure to her were making him ill. “The ship’s utility droid provided the Diva’s Mandalorian with this.” He opened his fingers, revealing to her the data stick Bralor had given him back in the suite.

Kyra’s hand went for the stick, then hesitated, almost as if touching the Chiss would increase the feeling of unease she felt being in such close quarters with him. She forced herself to take the small device that was supposed to act like a master key to each of the staterooms...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.49

trey_av…And you couldn’t have told us the plan?” Arden popped open one of the safety deposit boxes, “I thought we were a team?”

Trey glanced over his shoulder as he worked the lock of another strong box. “I’m sorry. But the arrest had to look real. Plus, I didn’t want to make a deal out of calling in my Pop.”

“Who you stunned and left in the cell.” She pulled the cred sticks out of the box.

“Yeah, well,” the thief said as he pulled a gem-laden necklace from the box. “You didn’t see what he did to me for my twelfth birthday on Chandrilla. No court would convict me.” He paused, then let out a laugh. “Well, not for that anyway.”

“You really worry me sometimes,” she gave him a side ways glance, “you know that right.”

Tossing the necklace to his pilot, Trey grinned. “Nothing to worry about, Arden...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.48

arden_avKyra leaned into the blade, forcing it down through the thick steel of the vault door. It was tough going, since the lightfoil didn’t have the same intensity of a Jedi lightsaber. Still, things were moving along faster than if they were trying to slice the combination. A safe the likes of the one they were cracking was bound to have a fail-safe on the number of times the wrong sequence of numbers could be entered before fusing itself shut. Oddly enough, the manufacturers didn’t seem as concerned with forced entry attempts.

The auburn haired apprentice wiped the sweat from her brow with the back of her gloved hand. They’d all changed into more ‘work appropriate’ attire. “Wonder if there’s any way to tweak this thing?” She remarked absently.

“Don’t. Like I said, it’s a family heirloom...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.46

kyra_avTrey sat in his cell, whistling softly. He knew the girls in the compartment opposite his were fuming — especially Arden — but he couldn’t tip his hand yet. There were eyes and ears watching them and he couldn’t let them know the deck had a skifter in it.

“I am so very glad you are happy over there,” The little blond grumbled, “I’m sure you’ll be ecstatic once we get to the Imperial prison.”

He sat up and smiled at his pilot. “Come on, Arden. There’s no way we’ll be in an Imperial prison. This is all a big case of mistaken identity.” He looked down the hall at the security station, at the guards posted there. “You should know things, and people, aren’t always what they seem. Have a little faith in my plan.”

“Who’s plan is it again?” Her eyes bored into him.

“Mine,” he grinned.

“Hence the l...
