Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.104

bwvatarJenna ducked into her car, taking a deep breath. It had been a long ten hours, but well worth the hell she knew she was about to catch. I suppose I can explain to Cox that this was just a test of Wolf while under extreme emotional duress. She smiled wryly, the smile slipping as she recalled all the times it had happened to her. Refusing to allow her mind to travel that particular path, she pulled onto the street and rode towards Aaron’s home in silence.

She pulled her car in front of the house, looking up. Shaking her head in appreciation, she vaguely wondered at the worth of purchasing her own home. Disregarding that inclination almost immediately, she started up the path to the brownstone. Here’s hoping he’s ready to listen… She pressed the doorbell.

There was a short buzz, the door clic...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.102

silvatarJenna moved briskly into the womb. A hand went up before she even opened her mouth. “I know, I know. Find Kaye. Get Satellite feeds, bring up visuals, yadda yadda…” Fingers flew over the keyboard as the teen spoke. “You come in here, always making demands. I mean, where’s the love?” Despite herself, Jenna’s face twitched into a smile. “No faith. No trust…just like a woman…take, take, take and nothing in return.” Bug pressed a final key, spinning in his chair to face Fairchild. “Voila’. Ask and ye shall receive.” Four monitors rose in an eerie synchronicity.

Jenna’s eyes flew from scene to scene. “Bug, I always knew you were a genius. Now, what exactly am I looking at?” Her eyes devoured the four scenes. A slender woman bent over an archaeological dig...

kavatar*beep beep*

Eddy’s eyes cracked open. According to the clock on the night table, it was 4:15 a.m. Who would be calling at this ungodly hour? He rolled over. His ribs still hurt like a mother…

*beep beep*

Eddy reached over for his cell only to suddenly remember that it had been destroyed. He changed the direction of his falling hand to slam it down on a communicator that sat beside his clock. A little current channeled to his voice box made the necessary change, though at this point he was sure his identity was blown five times over to these people.

Still had to keep up appearances. “Yeah?”

“Rise and shine, the bird is caged.”

Eddy raised an eyebrow, though there wasn’t anyone there to see it. “Huh?”

“Obviously not a morning person. We picked up your man, as promised.”

Realization hit him, ...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.96

kavatarEddy had spent the better part of the evening pouring over the digital pics on his laptop and the hard copies. He’d found several good leads, a lot of places where he could find what he needed to put Begnini away for good. But one of them appealed to him in particular.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, fighting the pain… he’d have to acclimate himself to it if he would be back on the prowl in time to use the info he’d just found. He scooped up the new communicator and keyed it over. Bluewolf didn’t sound quite like himself when he answered… he sounded ‘off’. “Bluewolf, go.”

“Hey Blue, it’s Kardiac. You okay?”

There was a pause from the other end. “Personal business. What’s up?”

Eddy, now in full Kardiac-mode, decided to let it sit at that. Blue would ask if he needed help...

bwvatarPope’s team was scattered all over the warehouse. Wolf had been too late to stop O’Shea, but he’d be damned if he were going to let anyone else die tonight. The humanitarian bit was going to be complicated, Silhouette had reminded him that the cops had a vague description of ‘a guy in armor’ from the activities at the yacht club, and they were already on the trigger happy side. Wolf didn’t want to play the Spider-Man role, but he couldn’t let himself be taken in for questioning either. There was just too much at stake at higher levels.

The chemical fires were spreading faster than he could move; meaning the situation was going from worse to FUBAR. Unnatural colors and intense heat blazed as he swept about the area, snatching cop and criminal alike and depositing them at a safe distance...

bwvatarHiland, near the home of Alphonse Begnini (late evening) –

This was not going to go down well. Even without Deadeye out there somewhere, he just had a feeling that the cops were come out on the short end of this raid, just like they had on the last. The only plus he could see was that Vice division had already been given the KenTech comm equipment, and he could, if necessary get information to them. Bluewolf sat midway between the GCPD staging area and the sprawling estate of one Alfonse Begnini. Near as he could tell, they would assault the gated entrance with a SWAT APC, then follow up with regular squad cars augmented by three SWAT vans. He could hear the air support in the distance, ready to flood the compound with light and provide any cover fire...

silvatarJenna slipped into the busy corridor that connected the main floor of Strategoi with the high clearance area. After five years, it still felt weird to be able to pass through doors usually barred to people like her – people who were nothing more than cops who were good at their job were. Last night had gone well, and though the planned had changed slightly, it still had merit – more so as she knew her organization would be able to track Begnini, and possibly find the ties between him, the Organization and the local police. Corrupt police were always present, but stamping them was a personal pleasure she allowed herself when she could.

Bug’s “lab” was enormous, and hosted the top R&D computer designs...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.59

bwvatarSnow was falling again. Nothing heavy yet, but enough to make Bluewolf’s search of the eastern half of the city less enjoyable than it already was. One night to find Kardiac and the Fox, one night to convince them Silhouette’s plan might actually work. Hell, he wasn’t sure if he was convinced they could pull it off, but they weren’t left with very much room to maneuver.

Standard spiral search pattern, starting at the docks and traversing east through Hiland. South through Eastland, then cutting back west just north of the Garrison Heights area, and angling northwest back to the docks, rinse and repeat until you caught a solid trail or simply ran out of city. The latter would be bad, but he had the utmost confidence in his techno-gadgetry added with his natural abilities...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.51

bwvatarThe day was going to be a long one. After the meeting with Jenna, Aaron wanted desperately to get there plan in motion; but where time was of the essence, patience was necessary. He skirted across the rooftops of Garrison, the night’s chill working into his blood, arriving home a few hours before dawn. Aaron was able to manage a short restorative meditation, sleep would have to wait. It was times like these that he almost hated what he was, how he wished for a ‘normal’ life. What if he had refused? What would his life be like then? Those thoughts were dashed away when the vision came…

Like a ghost, the massive lupine head took form in the darkness of his mind’s eye. It appeared almost as if the great wolf had stepped from a dense fog, azure aura permeating everything including Aaron...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.46

silvatarJenna stepped from the shadows of the rooftop across the alleyway; dark gray duster billowing slightly with her movement, gloved hands coming together in a slow, steady, clap. “Very nice. Although that bit at the end almost made me have to yak.” She moved closer to you, offering a hand. “Silhouette.”

Bluewolf was cautious, but nevertheless extended his hand to grip hers. “Bluewolf.” They shook once, allowing him a cursory inspection of this newcomer. Beneath the duster she wore leather utility trousers, solid gray, SWAT style, with a single-handed crossbow hanging from the belt. A bulge on the opposite side indicated at least one other weapon. Her brief top would probably be functional, if it the temperature wasn’t hovering just above the freezing mark...
