Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.20

fovatarSince she had nothing else pressing to do that night, Vivian went to sleep after Kardiac left. Not since university had she felt quite like this. Soon she’d likely be dotting her i’s with hearts and doodling her name with… So much for that plan, since she didn’t even know his first name, let alone his last.

There wasn’t anything special planned for the next day. Since she hadn’t spent the night before dashing around on rooftops, she was up rather early the next morning. After two cups of coffee, a long shower and breakfast, she donned some workout wear and went down to the gym in her building. After a while there she hit the streets, jogging to one of the nearby parks. That was one of the things about Garrison City that was growing on her, the parks...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.17

fovatarVivian had managed to get all her criminal gear tucked away safely and dress, trying to look like she had been here all night. She waited a few minutes and when no one busted down her door she allowed herself to relax slightly. After another few minutes she poured herself a glass of wine, hoping it would help her to calm down. She knew she was being paranoid. There was no way the vigilante could be headed here.

She picked up her glass of wine and headed into the living room, casting a silhouette against the sheer curtains that covered the balcony. It was then set back down on the coffee table without so much as a sip taken. She laughed softly to herself as she brushed a lock of blonde hair out of her eyes. “Get a hold of yourself girl” She said softly to herself and then sighed You need to...

kavatar“You might as well come out,” Kardiac said without turning around. “We could play chase around the city all night, but I get the feeling that I’d wear out before you…”

Bluewolf was surprised the vigilante had spotted him, but even more surprised that his surprise. He had heightened sensory abilities himself. Obviously, this vigilante was a lot more than he appeared.”I’m impressed. Even I would have had trouble hearing me approach.”

“There’s your problem then,” Kardiac answered, crossing his arms in front of him. “I didn’t hear you.

Extrasensory perception? This guy’s full of surprises.

Kardiac watched the costumed man consider him. He was in blue and gray, not exactly his favorite combination. “I really don’t have time for a fight right now… other business, so if you’ll excuse me.”

The blu...

fovatarOh yes, this area just screams rich men needing to be robbed.

Fox didn’t bother responding, it was sort of pointless to argue with herself like that. This was, to a certain extent, a business outing. She was in costume; she was doing surveillance work, just of a different sort.

She told herself again if it wasn’t business, if her interest in this vigilante had been purely personal, she could have always done the DiD thing to catch his attention. But, here she was, in costume, arriving in area that she knew he had been seen in frequently. So it must be business, right?

Having incredible luck that night, Fox stumbled across Kardiac not long after sneaking onto his turf...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.10

fovatarWhile the two heroes were enjoying their breakfasts, Vivian was still curled up in bed, enjoying a prolonged period of beauty sleep. One of the benefits of being a thief, besides the income, was the hours. Sometime around noon she woke up, ate, made a few calls to further secure her ‘cover-job’ and then went back to sleep.

Sometime around dinner she awoke again, ate, showered and started sorting through what would go to the fence that day. Despite the beauty of some of the pieces of jewelry she lifted the night before she wouldn’t keep any of it. They felt dirty to her. Not because they were stolen, but because of they had sleazoid cooties.

Once darkness fell and the good people of the city went home to their families, she started work...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.08

fovatarShe had begged off after only an hour or so at the party. Despite the high caliber of the work being shown that night she simply couldn’t concentrate on her surroundings.

Why didn’t you just give him your address and invite him over for tea? After you were done your crumpets you could have modeled your costume and showed him where you stashed all your stolen goods?

That voice in her head pestered her the whole way home in the cab.

I don’t know why.

Vivian admitted to herself, annoyed still, but trying to concentrate on other things. Tomorrow was a long day. She had to sort through what she had and then ‘interview’ the new fence a contact in the last city she was in had given her.

She also needed her beauty rest; tomorrow night would be even longer. She had her eye on a new target...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.07

kavatar“I was on my way to a party. If it’s not too much trouble, could you direct me back to a safer part of town?”

Kardiac grinned, something he usually tried to avoid doing in costume. Miss, just about anywhere is a safer part of town.” Under normal circumstances, he’d have his latest rescuee wait for the police, but he wasn’t sure that was such a good idea in this case. This kind of woman was a beacon for trouble in this part of town.

He closed his eyes and focused. She started to ask what he was doing, but he held up a warning finger. After a second, he had pinpointed the electrical system he was looking for. “There.” His eyes snapped open. “So where is this party of yours?”

The woman smiled, and there was something behind it. Kardiac assumed it was gratitude and let it go at that...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.06

fovatarFor all her concentration and focus while ‘working’, Vivian’s mind often wandered while ‘off-duty’. Perhaps it was the lack of caffeine in her system tonight; the adrenaline from earlier in the evening had long since worn off as well. Running on empty her brain had disengaged from her feet and she was now fully on autopilot. This would have been fine, had she been on more familiar ground, but new to the city it proved to be what could have been a fatal mistake.

Oblivious to her bad choice in directions she turned down a street where three less than desirables waited for someone like her to wander by. They didn’t have to wait for long and soon had her surrounded.

“Lookie lookie what we have here boys, a real beauty queen...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.05

kavatarThe north-central Industrial District was one of the quietest places in Garrison after midnight. There wasn’t a lot of activity, not the legal kind at least. One gentleman was working late tonight, however… and it was actually one of his legitimate interests. He did this quite often… got a lot done after hours when there were no employees or meetings.

Still, there was one appointment on his calendar tonight. And even though he didn’t know about it, that appointment was only seconds away. Alfonse Begnini was sitting at his desk, drinking coffee and sorting import schedules, when he heard a knock… at his window! He turned around in his chair, then quickly rolled out of it onto the floor as two bodies, bound together with duct tape, came crashing through.

He was just about composed, getting r...

fovatarThe cool crisp night air greeted Vivian as she quietly closed the penthouse door behind her and stepped out onto the balcony. If this had been her apartment she’d be settling down into the expensive patio furniture with a glass of wine, deep in thought as she savored the skyline of the city she was calling home this month. But, it wasn’t her home, rather the expensive pad of some business man she had met earlier in the week at a nightclub. He had been kind enough to invite her up for a drink afterwards, giving her a chance to scope out the layout of the place. Divorced he told her, likely thinking himself clever for his story, since it provided a cover-up for the ring mark on his finger. She knew better though, he was still married...
