Hard Boiled – Episode Two: The Roof is on Fire 1.28

Ryu set the empty flute down, smacking his lips. He slipped his fingers between a few of the remaining full glasses abandoned by their waitress. A quick glance around the room found Eddy nowhere to be seen. Doesn’t even say goodbye. Typical. No doubt when the smoke cleared he vacated the premises and was now throwing himself into work. It wasn’t healthy, and Kardiac knew it, but of course there was no talking to that man. Shaking his head, Ryu started weaving his way back through toward the woman with the tight jet black bun.

“Can you believe that, Kaye?” He held three of the bubbling flutes forward. Both ladies took one. “I take a bullet and still get left out of the grandstanding. And by my own special lady friend.”

“You’re an urban legend, love,” she smiled, raising her glass slightly ...

Hard Boiled – Episode Two: The Roof is on Fire 1.25

In the movies, when a group of terrorists integrates into a large group of people in order to relieve them of their valuables en masse, take hostages, rob a bank, or any of a number of sundry activities such groups are prone to, they fire off half a clip into the air. There is general pandemonium for a few moments before the gun-toting rabble assure the crowd that ‘no one will be hurt.’ As long as everyone stays calm and follows their every direction, that is. In real life, the general population does not follow instructions from a director – much less a group of armed individuals. Those few, who weren’t paralyzed by fear, were running in every direction for the nearest exit. In those instances, object lessons are usually required.

Aaron’s heightened sense of hearing picked out Alexandra...

Hard Boiled – Episode Two: The Roof is on Fire 1.22

Corin rang the doorbell to Jamie’s apartment. He hated it that his uncle would drag him off to these things, and he hated it even more that he had to drag Jamie along this time. As the door opened however, his attitude changed drastically. Jamie stood in the doorway wearing a smoke gray, floor length, satin gown slit up to her mid thigh. The top of the dress hung off only her right shoulder. Her blond hair was curled to perfection and bunched around the top of her head. Corin’s mouth dropped slightly as he looked at his best friend. Jamie smiled devilishly as she put her hand on the bottom of his chin and closed his mouth. “Easy tiger, don’t have a heart attack.” She purred as she took the bouquet he had bought for her.

“You look….,” Corin stammered on his words,”amazing.”

“You d...

Hard Boiled – Episode Two: The Roof is on Fire 1.16

From the outside, the residence of Jotaro Ikoma resembled all the other brownstones that lined the residential streets of “Old Town” Garrison City. Once through the threshold, however is where any similarity ended. In actuality, Ikoma had bought up the entire block of houses. He took up residence in the center unit, completely gutting it and remodeling it in traditional Japanese style. The units to either side were completely empty, save for the sophisticated surveillance and sound dampening equipment used to keep law enforcement officials at bay. Bracketing those, his security force maintained the perimeter, and could access the main house via corridors that passed through the dead zone within moments of any alarm.

No human being could ever expect to get within one hundred yards in any d...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.104

bwvatarJenna ducked into her car, taking a deep breath. It had been a long ten hours, but well worth the hell she knew she was about to catch. I suppose I can explain to Cox that this was just a test of Wolf while under extreme emotional duress. She smiled wryly, the smile slipping as she recalled all the times it had happened to her. Refusing to allow her mind to travel that particular path, she pulled onto the street and rode towards Aaron’s home in silence.

She pulled her car in front of the house, looking up. Shaking her head in appreciation, she vaguely wondered at the worth of purchasing her own home. Disregarding that inclination almost immediately, she started up the path to the brownstone. Here’s hoping he’s ready to listen… She pressed the doorbell.

There was a short buzz, the door clic...

silvatarJenna moved briskly into the womb. A hand went up before she even opened her mouth. “I know, I know. Find Kaye. Get Satellite feeds, bring up visuals, yadda yadda…” Fingers flew over the keyboard as the teen spoke. “You come in here, always making demands. I mean, where’s the love?” Despite herself, Jenna’s face twitched into a smile. “No faith. No trust…just like a woman…take, take, take and nothing in return.” Bug pressed a final key, spinning in his chair to face Fairchild. “Voila’. Ask and ye shall receive.” Four monitors rose in an eerie synchronicity.

Jenna’s eyes flew from scene to scene. “Bug, I always knew you were a genius. Now, what exactly am I looking at?” Her eyes devoured the four scenes. A slender woman bent over an archaeological dig...

Teotihuacan Archaeological site, Mexico –

Everything seemed to happen in a flash, rather than in the slow motion these type of events usually occur. Leaping at her assailant had actually caught him off guard. This combined with the enhanced agility and reflexes her feline form granted her, Kaye was able to escape. She had to assume the Jackal had some type of low light or infrared imaging capabilities, so once she was clear of the site and well into the surrounding brush, she shifted shapes again… this time to something smaller, a bobcat.

After several minutes of haphazard changes in direction Kaye stopped to listen. Nothing – no sign of pursuit – yet. It was growing dark, and Mexico City was a scant forty or so miles to the southwest...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.83

Teotihuacan Archaeological site, Mexico –

(Background Info: Teotihuacan is situated in the central section of the Valley of Teotihuacan. The valley is in the northeastern part of the Basin of Mexico, a plateau over 2,000 meters high with a temperate semiarid climate. The later Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, grew up about 700 years after the collapse of Teotihuacan 60-km southwest on an island in the shallow lakes that spread in the Basin at that time. The Spaniards destroyed Tenochtitlan in the 16th century. Modern Mexico City, which was built on the Aztec city, now extends far beyond the lake bed, now largely drained.

Teotihuacan interacted with many other Mesoamerican centers...

Hard Boiled – Episode One: A New Day 1.77

bwvatarIt had been an interminably long day for Aaron. And with the events planned for the evening, it wasn’t going to get much better. A quick meeting with Jenna early in the day for information exchange and then it was business as usual. Unfortunately his thoughts kept drifting to the performance they had to give later. Aaron knew Kardiac was already nursing a few cracked ribs, but he wouldn’t be able to pull too many punches and still look convincing. Leaving the office early, he headed back to his brownstone to try and relax a little.

Not five minutes after he walked through the door, the phone rang, “Hello…”

“Hey dear,” Kaye’s voice came as a pleasant surprise.

“HEY! How are you? What’s going on? Everything okay?” Aaron’s voice was a mixture of elation and concern...
