STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.45

arden_avThe first round of the Sabaac tournament had begun much as Trey had expected. A bracket was set up and players assigned to tables. Rules were announced by the ship’s pit boss and penalties for cheating were cheerfully pointed out by Agent Deffico.

Watching the other players at his table, the thief smiled broadly, the same smile he’d been telegraphing as a tell when he was bluffing. An executive with the CSA caught the smile and his eyebrow twitched, telling Trey the bait had been taken. It was time to exit the tournament.

Throwing away his highest card and collecting a zero, Trey pushed his entire stake into the middle of the table. “All of it,” he announced proudly.

The other players, save one, threw in their cards with mumbles of “Too high for me” or “I’m out”...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.44

nik_avNik had definitely had better days. He had awakened to find a technician in his escape pod pulling out a control board to scavenge a junction link. His sudden squeal of annoyance had startled the maintenance man, but had also given away his position… which meant he’d probably need to find a new place to sleep to avoid security sweeps. Less than an hour later, he had a run in with a smuggler by the name of Jenks, who he’d done a couple of ‘procurement’ tasks for in the past.

Jenks considered himself a man of tastes, which is why he chose the Princess as a meeting place for so many of his exchanges...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.42

diva_avBronze slippered feet padded across the ship’s deck as Tiila made her way to the ship’s spa to prepare for the evening’s events. A classy little parlor called Celestial Wellness on the far east side of the ship was her destination as she traversed the hallways of the Princess. The ache for some well needed pampering resonated through her. She needed something to ease the doubt that was fogging her thoughts. She’d never influenced a group even a fraction of the one she had before her but she wasn’t about to let the others know that.

The smell of botanicles let her know she was near and as she turned a corner the vision of a proper salon put a genuine smile on her lips that lingered until she caught another, far less welcome sight. That horrid little Theelin had apparently had the same idea...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.40

tiila_avThe breathtaking monotony of space suddenly gave way as the Passion’s Flame approached the luxury liner. The massive ship loomed large through the transparasteel viewport, dwarfing the yacht as they drew closer to the hangar bay. Aidenne’s hand rested lightly on Bralor’s shoulder as he maneuvered the ship toward their destination. The vibrations of the engine shifted then faded away as the primary engines were shut down, leaving the Flame to coast into the wide open bay.

Glancing down at her hand, the Diva’s lips curled into a small smile. For a moment her mottled skin took on a blue tint as they passed through the doorway with room to spare...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.36

tiila_avWell?” Bralor walked side by side with Rai Kitt down the plank to where The Soul was parked. Kitt was a gruff old man with a wild gray stubble that made Bralor’s five o’clock shadow seem manicured. The embery end of his cigarra clamped between his teeth gave a thick embery glow as he took a long puff on it. The smoke that curled up over his face, wavered slightly as he took the stub from his mouth and used it as a pointer. “Damn good job if you ask me. Way more than the price I let you sucker me in to.”

Aside from the make and model and mild modifications of the YT-2000 freighter, The Free Flying Soul was nearly unrecognizable with its new orange accents. Bralor wasn’t sure what Arden would say when she saw it, but it was part of the plan...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.33

bralor_av“I think we can meet somewhere in the middle, Rai.” Bralor crossed his arms over his chest, looking down at the holovid. “I’m good for it. 780.” The old man groaned and appeared to slump back in a chair. The clone leaned on the console. “You owe me.”

The image of the older man scowled, and flickered with static as he shook his head. “Taking advantage of an old man, Bralor?”

“You’re still making money on this deal.”

“This is how you want to call in your marker?”

A grin split Bralor’s face. “I knew you’d come around.” He stood upright, stretching to his full height.”I’ll radio when we’re there.”

“How long?”

“Not too long,” he replied. “One stop and we’re on our way.”

The man nodded and the feed was cut...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.30

tiila_avTrey’s boots scraped against the deck plates and he trudged down the corridor. He leaned against the metal door and took a moment to massage his temples. The Mandalorian had filled him in on what happened, and he already confined Arden to the cockpit, but he needed to face the ambassador. Still supported by the door, he lifted his hand beside his head and knocked twice before calling to the room’s occupant. “Tiila, it’s Trey. We need to talk.”

“No,” Other than her words, there was silence from her side of the door. “I have nothing to say.”

Pushing off the door, Trey turned around. “I do. Open up.”

The gray steel remained closed. “I am not opening the door.” The woman’s voice was distorted somewhat.

Trey pulled a code cylinder out of his pocket and jammed it into the port above the door’s k...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.28

krynn_avKrynn was in his room lying on his bed quietly. He was there most of the time when he wasn’t on duty, but this time he was waiting. He had started the ship records searching for information on what the Mandalorian had pushed him about.

That was when he heard the sound. It was almost like a ticking, and at first he ignored it. He focused on the screen in his room as it progressed toward completion and then printing of the data it found. But then, he heard it again. A ticking sound like metal against metal. It was faint, and that was part of why it was so hard to ignore. It persisted and he started to look about the room sitting up.

When he searched nothing was to be found, and it was becoming maddening...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.26

arden_avThe door stared back at Tiila as she sat on her bed, chewing the inside of her lower lip. She didn’t know what was going on beyond that simple piece of steel and that bothered her. Being trapped in this room was no better than wearing that damned collar and she was not about to stand for it. Not out here. She unfolded her pink legs and walked over to that door, stopping just inside to firmly position her chin before jabbing the control panel with her fingertips. The door opened with a soft sound that almost made her jump. She walked quietly toward the lounge. Maybe she would get lucky and would find a friendly face at the end of the hall.

Maybe not.

As Tiila entered the common room she kept herself from frowning as the room’s sole occupant was that wretched orange Theelin...

STAR WARS: GALACTIC TALES – BETWEEN THE EMPIRE AND THE REBELLION 1.24

tiila_avThe ship was less busy than usual with plans underway for the upcoming job which was just as well because Tiila had no desire to run into most of the crew. Trey and Arden were secluded in the off limits cockpit area, the Diva and her large scary blue friend were up in her room, Kyra was in her own room doing God knows what, and Bralor was likely where he always was, in the lounge. Tiila stuck her head around the corner, seeing things were just as she expected them and approached the Mandolorian seated in the corner. “Bralor?” She was taking a chance with reaching out to a member of the crew, but he had been kind enough so far, and she had worked herself into a situation.

“Tiila...
